Every person that joined our speech team this year wanted to talk about world current events. We all knew that we could not all do the same thing, so our coaches held tryouts. I chose to audition with a few things that were happening overseas. Some of my teammates chose topics of events that had happened a little closer to home.

The day that the list was to go up with the people who had made it, was a very stressful day for all of us. We knew that we had to accept whatever happened and move on and make our speech team the best that it could be. Since this was my senior year, I was really hoping that the coaches would take that into consideration and give me a spot.

At the end of the day, just before practice was to begin, the list of the people who had made it onto the world current events team was posted. I was elated to see not only my name on the list, but also my best friends. We were going to have so much fun getting ready for competitions and enjoying our last year on the speech team.  I hope that we make it to the state competition; it would just be the icing on the cake.
